Amish Cut No-Shows After Loss

Teeswater  A short-handed Amish squad put up a valiant effort against the tough Cake team but came up on the short end of an 18-10 score.

Playing Cake at any time is never fun, but only having eight fielders took its toll on the Amish this day.  A fenceless outfiled and an Amish roster without Dayman or Lang seemed to spell doom.  However, it was the missing fourth infielder that Cake picked on, lining shot after shot through the open holes.  The Amish managed to make a game of it in the fifth, closing the gap to five at 15-10.  However, that was as close as they would come.

The top of the order couldn't hit a blind schoolgirl if they tried going 3 for 15.  However, the four, five and six hitters, Large, Shayne and Robbie collectively went 12 for 14 with six runs scored and eight RBIs.

After the game, which was attended by General Manager Kim Donnelly, the team announced several cuts.  Ms. Donnelly, visibly angered by the poor showing, released Joe Lang, Daryll Dayman, Chris Donnelly, Bill Plakholm, Paul Donnelly and Devin Lacey.  After her anger subsided, Lang and Dayman were quickly recalled.

The loss is the second in a row for the stumbling Amish who had recently reeled off four wins in a row.  They now sit at 7-6.  The next game is Friday night in Cargill against their nemesis, the Diamondbacks.
