Amish Full of Optimism and Booze
AP - The Fighting Amish return to
the diamond Friday night to kick off their 2003 season against the Slippery
Nipples. The game marks a coming of age
for the Amish. Once the laughing stock,
beer-guzzlers of the league, they’ll be passing that torch to an eager bunch of
souses from Paisley. And with that, the
Amish have their sights set on a much loftier title.
“I think we’ll suck a lot less
this year than we sucked last year,” said an optimistic Brad Lacey. “We’ve got some new faces and some old faces
that look like new faces.” Uh
yeah. By that, Lacey means the three
additions to the roster this year.
Kevin Schmidt returns from a five-year stint with the Triple-A Edmonton
Mud Hens. The tall, lanky bad boy of
baseball brings a consistent bat to the line-up.
